3 ways to help your hand pain today

Hand pain stopping you from doing your day to day activities?

Pain in your hands can affect all aspects of your life. From the physical limitations of doing your daily activities to the emotional toll of feeling like you can’t participate in meaningful connections. While all injuries and any acute and chronic pain should be assessed by a professional, there are several techniques that may be helpful for providing some relief for minor aches and pains.

Information provided is not a substitute for professional medical advice and should be used for educational purposes only.

  1. Gentle warm water soaks can help alleviate achy joints in small joints. Try doing this in the morning prior to starting your day in order to increase blood flow and help with range of motion.

  2. Try to use larger joints in your arm to perform tasks instead of relying on small joints like your fingers, thumb, and wrist. When appropriate, try things like carrying bags on your forearms and use your elbow to push open a door in order to save the stress for these smaller joints that are more susceptible to injury and pain.

  3. Avoid stress on your hands like squeezing a ball or hand exercisers. Many issues may be exacerbated by these activities. Instead try gentle movement within a pain free range with a gentle hold for a few seconds at the end of your arc of motion.
